New! L550 Industrial Lift-Arm Wheel Loader
The new L 550 Industrial lift-arm Wheel Loader expands on the product offerings in our highly efficient and productive wheel loader line. These hydrostatically powered wheel loaders have proven to be extremely fuel efficient, easy to maintain and comfortable to operate.

The new L 550 Industrial lift-arm incorporates a newly designed front linkage geometry and kinematics. The new linkage can bedescribed as a "blend" of the traditional Z and P kinematics. The Industrial lift-arms feature an increase in torque when unloadingmaterial or when lifting material in the upper lift positions of the geometry. In addition, the new linkage and geometry provide the advantage of a traditional P kinematic; precise, parallel movement throughout the entire lifting range.
  • Tipping Load (articulated): 25,700 lbs.
  • Bucket Capacity: 4.2 yd3
  • HP: 177
  • Operating Weight: 36,450 lbs.

Liebherr Puts Wraps on Successful ConExpo
Liebherr once again hosted a spectacular and successful exhibit at the 2011 ConExpo in Las Vegas, Nevada. There was plenty to see and learn at the Liebherr booth with new products and demonstrations from the crane divisions and the construction and material handling division. Crowds of fascinated spectators were able to view demonstrations of the R 924 Compact Swing and A 924 LIKUFIX technology, as well as a presentation of the extreme precision on the 81K Speed2Lift. The brand-new LH 120 material handler was another prime attraction among visitors; the eye-catching piece of equipment amazed all as it towered above the exhibit floor. Also newly introduced at the Liebherr exhibit was the L 550 Wheel Loader with Industrial Lift-Arms and the Generation 6 R 916 Advanced Excavator, both of which impressively display Liebherr’s ground-breaking construction technology. With an attendance of over 120,000 industry professionals from over 150 countries, there was no better place for Liebherr to exhibit its broad range of new product offerings.
Liebherr Sponsors Teams at AEM Construction Challenge Finals, ConExpo 2011

Liebherr Construction Equipment Co.,  Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News, Co., and Liebherr Cranes, Inc. sponsored three teams at this year‘s AEM Construction Challenge Finals, which was held at ConExpo in Las Vegas, NV.  The teams representing Liebherr came from the Maggie Walkers Governor School in Richmond, VA; the Massanutten Governor School in Mt. Jackson, VA; and the Creekview, Turner and Newman Smith High Schools in Carrollton, TX.

What is the Construction Challenge?  It is a career-education initiative to help develop the workforce of the future.  Teens compete and solve infrastructure, design and service tech Challenges using teamwork, creativity and problem solving.  The ultimate goals for the participants are to understand the relationships between construction, infrastructure and quality of life; to be able to implement solutions to transportation infrastructure challenges; and to understand the impact of water infrastructure issues on the quality of life.

All three teams competed at Regional events prior to being selected to compete at the Finals.  During the competitions, all three teams gave every challenge their best efforts.  A total of 24 teams competed at the Finals.  The team from Carrollton, TX finished third overall, as well as finishing third in the Road Rumble Challenge.  The two teams from Virginia received recognition awards for their creativity during the water infrastructure Challenge.  Congratulations on a job well done to all three of the Liebherr teams!

Dr. Hans Liebherr Inducted into Equipment Manufacturing Hall of Fame

The 2010 inductees are:

  • Jim Gorman of The Gorman-Rupp Company
  • Dr. Hans Liebherr of Liebherr Company

The AEM Hall of Fame seeks to create a wider public understanding and appreciation of the industry’s role - not only in the past but for the future - in global economic and social prosperity. The achievements and significant contributions of inductees also serve as an inspiration for future industry leaders.

Candidates are judged by an independent panel of industry experts and supporters on how well they exemplify five guiding principles: innovation, industry contributions, leadership, corporate citizenship/social responsibility and sustainability.

“We are pleased to recognize these individuals whose vision and leadership have contributed greatly to the growth and strength of our industry and of our quality of life,” stated AEM President Dennis Slater.

Since its inception in 1993, more than 35 industry leaders have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. For more information go online to www.aemHallofFame.com.

Dr. Hans Liebherr of Liebherr Company

Dr. Liebherr ‘s impulse to innovate was exhibited early and often, and through his guidance, the company became identified as an engineering-driven one. In 1949 he developed and patented the TK 10 tower crane, the key product that became the platform for his new business. From this point, he continued to innovate and expand – with cranes as well as a wide variety of other construction equipment and industrial products.

Liebherr’s focus on fuel efficiency and productivity led to the development of hydrostatic drive systems, and Liebherr products led the industry in implementing electronic controls for hydraulics. He was an early pioneer of high-pressure hydraulics, which still set the highest industry standard in excavators.

Dr. Liebherr fostered a corporate culture in which innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit propel company progress, and he was an early proponent of world trade. Starting in the late 1950s, he built Liebherr facilities outside of Germany. Many Liebherr factories were located in rural areas or less-developed industrial markets, which provided badly needed employment opportunities for local residents.

AEM is the North American-based international trade group providing innovative business development resources to advance the off-road equipment manufacturing industry in the global marketplace. AEM membership comprises more than 800 companies and 200-plus product lines in the agriculture, construction, forestry, mining and utility sectors worldwide.
